When Cody and India reached out about their wedding this coming June, I was so excited to be part of their story. As part of my wedding experience, I offer my couples a discounted engagement session, and it’s always one of my favorite ways to connect before the big day.

For their session, we chose Carlsbad State Beach North—and it couldn’t have been more perfect.

A couple embraces on a pebbled beach at sunset. The man lifts the woman, surrounded by gentle waves and a pink-orange sky, creating a romantic mood.

🌊 Golden Hour Magic by the Ocean

We met just before sunset, when the light softens and everything starts to glow. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the sky lit up with some of the most breathtaking colors—soft pinks, warm oranges, and deep blues.

Cody and India were completely in the moment—laughing, walking along the shoreline, and just enjoying the experience together. Those are always the sessions that create the most natural, timeless images.

And honestly… beach sunsets like this never get old.

💍 Why Engagement Sessions Matter

Engagement sessions aren’t just about photos—they’re about preparation and connection.

  • 📸 You get comfortable in front of the camera

  • 🤝 We build a real connection before the wedding day

  • 💡 You learn posing that feels natural (not forced)

  • 🧘‍♀️ It reduces stress for your wedding photos

By the time June comes around, Cody and India will already know exactly what to expect—and that makes a huge difference.

👗 What to Wear for a Beach Engagement Session

Outfits can make or break your photos—especially at the beach. Here are a few tips to help you look and feel your best:

✔️ Go with Soft, Neutral Colors

Think:

  • Whites

  • Beiges

  • Soft blues

  • Earth tones

These complement the ocean and sunset beautifully.

✔️ Choose Flowy, Comfortable Fabrics

The beach has natural movement—wind, waves, motion.

Flowy dresses, linen shirts, and relaxed fits photograph incredibly well and add a romantic feel to your images.

✔️ Avoid Heavy Patterns & Logos

Simple is always better. You want the focus to be on you, not your outfit.

✔️ Consider Barefoot or Minimal Footwear

Shoes can feel out of place on the sand. Barefoot always looks natural and effortless.

✔️ Coordinate, Don’t Match

Choose colors that complement each other instead of wearing identical outfits.

💡 Tips for Your Next Beach Engagement Session

  • Timing is everything – Aim for golden hour (1 hour before sunset)

  • 🌬️ Expect wind – It adds movement, but plan hairstyles accordingly

  • 🧺 Bring a towel or blanket – For sitting shots

  • 👣 Be ready to walk – Some of the best spots require a little exploring

  • 😄 Relax and have fun – The best photos happen naturally
